brownish rust color algae

the last few days most of my rocks and some of my sand has been covered in a rust colored algae of some sort. tank has been up and running for 2 weeks maybe and 1 week with live rock and a crab. been putting a very small amount of food in there once and a while to help cycle (advice from friend).

does this sound like good or bad algae? ill get a pic up asap

You need to let it cycle and with no stock. If you have lights on full time then lower time to 1 or 2 hours of main lighting and bring up slowly to help reduce algea.

Let tank cycle for 4 to 8 weeks and after readings drop and stay level then come back and thread "Cycle over now what" GL

i was told its carribean, it was "dark cured" he said thats why it doesnt have the coralline algae or whatever its called, but he assured me it had everything i need on it to start . got it from a local guy for 2.25/lb. he took it out of what looked like a large sump he had a larger thriving tank, there is stuff living on some of it so..

so i should cut out the lighting for most the day? because right now i have it on from about noon to 11pm, the room has almost no natural light.

Like everyone said it is completely normal and just a cycle. Wait until Red and Green algae blooms hit!
