sand question????

when i downgrade to a 20 long from my 36 bowfront, should i use my old livesand or should i just be safe and buy new stuff? will my tank cycle again or no, i will be useing all my stuff i already have.

I think (if it were me) i would get me some new sand and use a cup full of the old stuff to seed the new tank.

Why would you not use your old sand? I setup another tank and reused the sand that was in my other tank. Full of worms and all the other little copepods. The newer sand is whiter and a little cleaner (detritus wise) but what are the other reasons?

sandbeds have traped pockets of ammonia, wich is poisonous to liveing creatures. oh yea i shoulda said before my sandbed is 3.5 inches deep. you wouldnt have that problem if you had a shallow sand bed
