Sfiligoi?
Why are their 1 x 250w MH pendants a thousand dollars more than the rest?

Ever notice how the more unpronounceable the name, the more expensive it is? Geisemann, Tunze....
The cheap ones are easy to pronounce: Rio, Seio....

And, they are personally rowed across the ocean and walked across the countryside to your home!
Kidding. Maybe. I have been waiting for 3 months now for two of these pendants. Supposedly waiting to clear customs now for the last couple of weeks. Maybe they think I am going to grow some plants... I don't know. Saw the brand and had to vent. I hope it will be worth it! I will let you know. R |

I think they are the only dimmable metal halide fixure. I could be wrong though.

After seeing Fliger's experience I don't think I would buy them if I could afford them. Premium price should come with premium customer service. JMO

I thought Fliger was satisfied by the efforts of Sfilifio and AO to rectify by the end of his ordeal even though he still sold the fixture?
In any case I just scored a slightly used Sfiligio Stealth 8x54W + 2x250HQI pendant and man is it gorgeous and bright as hell when its on. I can't believe other manufacturers haven't really introduced MH/T5 fixtures with lots of T5s since you can cram so many into a fixture because of their narrow width. T5s are great, but only when you can run different bulb combos. I can't wait to get a rimless starphire tank to hang this baby over and do it justice! James

I wouldn't say I was satisfied with the efforts - only the outcome. It took months to resolve, I lost a lot of corals and time, and it cost me a lot more than what I paid for the fixture - as I had to buy a different fixture while I waited for the issue to be resolved. But after a LOT of trying, I finally got a fix - and it worked beautifully. The reflectors are huge! Its a very large fixture and IMO your tank needs to be large, otherwise it looks disproportionate IMO.
Although I'm NOT the only person who had to battle to get an XR4 fixed - I believe they have worked out their issues (I hope). That Stealth looks like a nice fixture - congrats James, give us some pix! And I totally agree that makers should cram more T5 in fixtures. I jumped at the chance to buy a Photon - which is 2x400W + 6x54W. Eight would be even sweeter if you have a super wide tank. I doubt I'd ever buy Sfiligoi again. Not that the company itself is bad - I had great dealings with Alessandro. But the fact that my issue could have been cleared up in a week, and it took months - I just feel a little burned. But I'm sure there is someone out there that feels burned by even the best manufacturers/distributors. edit - couple more things, the coral losses weren't TOTALLY due to the light not working, but it was probably the largest factor. also, i have owned a LOT of high end fixtures and would definitely not say sfiligoi is the "best" - but on par with the other high end fixtures. i've had a few giesemanns, an elos, a very high end aquamedic, and the photon (along with other cheapies I wouldn't mention). they're all priced similar, and some have different advantages over others in certain applications. the big adv of the XR4/6 is definitely the spread. it really depends on your application. james you'd better post some pix of that bad boy.

burton14e7, See above post!!!
The specifications on any and all Sfiligoi are on the web. You need to jump on the German and Italian websites and use google.com "Language Tools". If all else fails call Will over at AO. I would say most if any of the problems in the past have been worked out by now. Dimmable T5 will be here in March 08 via the ACLS. |

Sorry David,
I wasn't trying to speak for you by any means. I appreciate your many posts on the high-end equipment you have personally tried. Believe me with the Stealth I traded for, I made damn sure it worked properly first. I was just ecstatic to get one as I would never be able to buy one at retail. Its going to be awhile till I get it up as it won't fit my current tank and I'm determined to put this one on a rimless starphire tank. So you had a Photon. I must have missed that one. Whats you evaluation of it? James

Oh dude what are you apologizing for man - I wanna see that Stealth! I've never seen a real picture, only renderings. Looks like a nice fixture.
I like the Photon very much. flyingphish has a smaller version - I think he likes his as well. Although last night one of my Aquaconnects decided not to turn on - I hope its the ballast and not the bulb, easier to replace! There are pix of mine and his over here http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...8#post11292578
