New Turbo Snails don't seem to move?

Well I picked up some new turbos yesterday and they were healthy at the stores, and when I got them home. I acclimated them and put them in and they were moving. I went out for a few hrs than came home and they don't seem to move anymore and this morning they were in the same spots. So I examined them and poke them and they did move. But they arent crawling around, any reason why they arent crawling around?

I've had turbos for several years ... I've never found one to be "on its back".

Turbos generally only move about at night. They like to stay out of the light (and remain stationary) in daytime.

Hmm thats interesting I didnt know turbos dont like to move during day time. But even if they were moving shouldnt they be in different places? Before I went to bed they were in the corner and this morning they were in the corner. Unless they returned to the same area just to sleep?

Yeah turbos are mainly active at night. Nass snails are the only snails to my knowledge that can flip themselves back over.

heh, I heard margaritas can't flip themselves.

Astreas have zero problems in a BB tank. that I see every day. If you don't have any traps in your LR layout, there is no way astreas can be inadvertantly killed in a BB. if they fall, they just flip and go.

snails can take some time to acclimate, especially if they got a bit scrambled by the water chem differences. the ones that snap out will get rolling. the goners will sit until they die, so nudge the pokey snails just to see if they are still hanging on after a couple days.

I think I found a dead one already, it was slightly opened up with that scale plate sticking up with a small gap. So I poked it and it didnt retract that scale thing. And I looked at the others ones and poke them they retracted and one actually grabed some sand and than went back into its shell.

don't feel bad. I f'd up a whole bag of trochus not acclimating them right. (maybe my dumbest hour in this hobby) man, that sucked. Trochus yet......

now I acclimate the doodoo out of them with a dripper into a container in the sump for hours. have only lost one or two new snails since, and they could have even been injured in handling. the snails hit the ground running, and all is good.
