main tank w/out fish while qt with fish -also how big should a qt be

what kind of concerns do i have to have when adding back my fish into the my main tank after a qt...i know your not suppose to add more then 1 fish a month but i would be adding 6 fish in a short period of time back to my main tank...would the tank be able to handle that kind of bio load that quick without having fish in it...also how big of a qt tank will i need to hold 6 fish...3 small and 3 med size fish.....as it is per the suggested inch per gal im pushing it in my main tank...wont a putting 6 fish in a small tank stress them even more ..thanks
