Sump/Fuge/= Detrius ??
Hello all
My sump /fuge is a 15 gallon tank First chamber is my euroreef skimmer/baffle /than small fuge about 4x12 with sand on the bottom about 4 " high Rock rubble and some seachem Matrix // then heater and mag 5 back to the tank Could I be holding to much dirt in my fuge ? I just removed some cheato and noticed that there is a bunch of crap in this section SO I moved the input and the output to the same chamber and stirred up the crap and will let my skimmer take out that junk and not have it return to the tank until it is clear Any thoughts if I should remove the rock/sand to have a cleaner system ? Thank |

Is there any way you can squeeze some sort of sponge in the first baffle to try and catch some detritus?

I'm happy to see the detritus settle in my sump &/or fuge. that means less is settling in my display tank, and it is easy as pie to suck it all out from the sump/fuge during water changes!

I agree, with above. When ths happens just shut off the pumps, and do your water change out of the fuge, sump. No matter what you do, will get detritus settling in the sump/fuge.

Yup, detritus will collect *somewhere* Better in the sump than behind the aquascaping.

I would use a filter sock to help pick up any detritus before it gets to the sump/fuge. Just remember to change the sock often.

Normal. I wouldn't restrict the flow in any way, so as not to impede the pods going full circle.
I would get a raft of bristleworms and turn them loose.
