They are about the same. the eco mod will rust really fast. The sure flow had problems with the first version, but the newer version has been working good for many people. The newer version has a white propeller that pushes out more water and is less noisy, and the holder is also better (the first one breaks really easy)

The sureflow is a better deal, it has mounting brackets and the CS is great.

Here's a 3rd Maxi-mod to confuse you: http://sea-flo.com/cms/
There is a review of it in Reef Central. On the home page, click on the Sea-Flo link at the lower left.

And a 4th, www.tritonaquatics.com and your talkin 2000+ gph, the triton and the sureflow highflow mod are both awesome. Personally i like the sureflow based on ease of use. You don't have to take apart the impeller. You basically pop it in and put on the new shroud and your done. I'd rank them like this.
1) sureflow high flow mod
2) triton high flow
3)sureflow low flow
4)eco mod

Never used the other one. But it won't be above the top 2

Any observations on which Maxi-mod is the most quiet?

The triton and high flow sure flow are both equally quiet running on a mj1200. The eco and sure flow low flow had a slight hum.

PJF, I guess its not really there low flow, thats just what i called it. Its just there regular one. Which is around 1600gph you can pick them up at Premium and many other vendors. If you run this model with the mj1200 you will get some noise, but the others are pretty silent.

And I'm pretty sure the new SureFlow kits come with both the normal and high-flow propellers, so you can play around with both to see which one you like. I've been using 4 high-flows in my 220 and the currents are awesome. They're also silent which I, too, was worried about before buying them.

You can see the new kits at www.algaefree.com
