Not really a noob but have a question that may sound noob
The last 4 years I used crushed coral and now on my new tank I switched to sugar sized sand.
My question, how do you vac the sand without sucking it into the vac? Every time that I do a water change I get a lot of sand that I dump in the toilet. Anyone? |

simple...dont vac it. If you want too, stir it up and siphon the crud out as best you can. I would only do a small area at a time, maybe a 1/4 of the tank every time you do a W/C.

I use sugar grain. A diamond goby and sea cucumber along with a few nausarius snails keep it well. I also puff it up with a turkey baster once a week to float out any detrius.
