Lesson Learned on Importance of Flow

I just learned a hard lesson on the importance of flow in a reef aquarium. I moved my 90G reef tank to a new home over 6 months ago. At first, I thought I had lost a small montipora plate frag, but then I noticed -- much to my surprise -- that the frag was actually near the back of the tank and it had thrived in its new location. My single plate had grown into several plates.

Less than a week ago, one of the 2 Hydor Korallia powerheads in my tank died. The one that died was the one I had positioned in the rear of the tank to ensure good circulation there. I removed it and figured I would get a new one when I had a chance... in hindsight, I should have replaced it immediately. The nice monti colony that had done so well is now dead. I presume it died simply due to the change in circulation in that area of the tank. Lesson learned.
