Planning for a 120G, please help!

Hey all, it's time to move up in the world! I'm on my way to purchase a 120G this week, and want to get some suggestions on skimmers, flow, etc. I've already got lighting set, and have a bunch of equipment carrying over from my previous system, but upgrades are surely in order.

Can I have your opinions?

Anyone running a 90-150G system, I'd love to hear what skimmer you've chosen, what flow (overflows/closed loops/internal powerheads) you've chosen, and why you love it so much!

Convince me that your way is the best way to set this up...

Appreciate any input!

Im going to be setting up a 90g and will be using the modified sea clone 150, it works great on my 40 but well see how it is on the 90

ive got a 120 with a 30 gal sump/fuge.............euroreef cs6-3 skimmer..................2 maxijet 1200, 2 tunze 6060............50mg/hr ozone

I have a 120 with a 50 gal fuge. I use four Tunze 6000 streams for flow, and a Mag 7 for a return. As for a skimmer I use an ETSS 800. This picture is a few months old and everything is bigger now. My equipment seems to work for me.

i have 2 vortechs and 2 tunze nanostream 6045s for flow. i have a BM160 for a skimmer.

i love them because the flow these things put out keep the poop suspended so the skimmer pulls them out. i run my tank BB btw.

I have had my 120 up for a few years and have had internal powerheads(caused me alot of headaches), for about 3 years I have been running the wave2k. other then replacing the motor twice and switching the nylon follower out with stainless steel one I love the wave2k its quiet, inexpensive and energy efficient. (also cheaper then replacing a few powerheads a year plus 4000gph with a natural current).

I swear by aquac skimmers. what bioload are you going to run? what kind of fish? What kind of reef so you know what kind of lighting to run?

Thanks for the responses! I've got the lighting all set, 3x 250W MH system with additional T-5's. I plan on a mixed reef w/ a significant sps load. Fish, moderate bioload. Not planning on cramming it full by any means!

I think that I'm leaning on a dart with an ocean motion 4 way return for a closed loop, and using the AGA built in overflow to drain to my sump with questions on which pump to use for return.

Regarding your question you asked in my thread about equipment and if I would choose it again. The only thing I would do again is the OM 4-way, I think it's a good product. I just think it is not working well in my specific case. I did not plan my system to use it so trying to add it in later with the lack of space is a challenge.

If I were to do it again I would do a vortech or two. IMO I belive you get better flow, it's much simpler, less electricity and they can be mover around easily.

i would go with a flow rate of about 900gph for a 120g return

on my 150g i use a mag-18 which after the height loss does about 1300gph.
