azoo battery air pumps
Has anyone used these air pumps before? Do they last long, as in not breaking or parts wearing out quickly? I bought a battery air pump (not azoo) from a local bait and tackle store. It did not last that long. The only time that I used it, it ran continuously for about 3-4 hours. It was only used once or twice a year and then stored. It lasted less than 3 years.

I've seen em at the stores, and upon initial inspection, I decided to hold out for something a little better. They seem cheaply made but I guess during a power outage, it would be better than absolutely nothing.

If this is the one you are talking about, I own 2. I had one on my 30g FW community and another on my 75g Cichlid tank. They worked great when the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto knocked out the power. Only problem is that for a salt water tank, they either run continuously or off, they don't turn on when the power fails then off when it comes back on. For a FW tank that has a bubble curtain anyways, it would work great. For a reef, I'm not sure how well it would do. Hope that helps.

i have 3 of these on standby. yes, they are cheap in quality but i've tested them for an 8 hour period it they worked fine. we don't get too many (long) outages where i live so they suit their purpose. 3pk are only $10.69
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...&Ntt=azoo&Np=1 one of these i'll end up getting a APC backup battery but for now i guess this will do..i hope. :P |

I doubt you will find something better at your LFS. A computer UPS could work better. Unfortunately they don't last long, at all, with powerheads and heaters etc.. If however, you where to just hook up a low watt air pump, it may work very well and might be your best bet for under $100.
