Hmm, you would have to cut off the old PC endcap (there's only one) then you would have to splice in 2 endcaps for the T5 bulb. This would require some butchering of the fixture since you need to run the wire for the other endcap to the other end of the fixture. A 48" T5 bulb is 54 watts, so you would probably have to swap out the ballast. It seems like a lot of work, for a small upgrade. IMO.

OK, just a couple of thoughts. Won't the 96W ballasts be fine with 45W HO T5's, aren't they usually overdriven by the IceCap's to this wattage anyawys?
Couldn't one simply plub pins into the PC's endcap and wire directly to the T5 endcaps? Just some thoughts. |

Yes, if you leave the ballast, it will be over driven by 40 some watts. This is a pretty good amount and will really shorten the life of the bulb. And I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to about wiring the pins to the endcap. You would have to cut off the pin connector leaving just the wires, then splice those wires to the endcap. And since T5s are double ended, unlike PCs, you will have to run another wired endcap to the other end of the light fixture. Also, securing the endcaps to the fixture will be a problem. I dont know if there is anything to mount it to. IMO, It isn't worth the trouble. It isn't that big of an improvement.
