Refuge (HOB) to insert Sand or not to insert Sand

What is the general consensus about sand in a refugium? In my case the tank is 10g, the fuge is 3g (HOB). I could put in 3-4" of sand (and I have sand for it here) but I don't know if it is worth it.

What do you guys think?

Do 4" of sand a few pieces of live rock and some chaeto. It will benefit your 10g.

Personally, I'd use the space for macroalgae. I don't have any sand at all in my refugium.
