Nova Extreme Pro - use with or without glass top?

I just received my 36" 6x39 Nova Extreme Pro- and while reading through the instructions, noticed it says "This Light Fixture is to be used over completely covered aquariums only", and has a picture of the unit installed over a tank with a full glass/acrylic top. I would think a glass top would cut down on light penetration somewhat, but perhaps its safer? So, how is everyone else using this light? With a glass top? Note, i'm NOT talking about the splash shield that is mounted to the light.

ill be using mine open top with just the splash shield. i really dont see why you would run the light with the splash shield over a glass covered tank. thats some technical liability mumbo jumbo

Fan cooled lights need the shield in place for the proper air flow. R

I have my nova extreme pro over my open tank. I used to have the Orbit PC 36" 2X96W and I had it over my open top tank for over 2 years with no problems. I do keep the splash guard in place and clean it weekly. The Orbit fixture said the same thing in the insturctions but I never had any problems with it. I still have my orbit as a backup and the thing looked like new other than a little dust in the fan area when I replaced it with the nova extreme pro.
