salifert tests

I have these test kits and I had a question on when reading the results on these do you put the vial on the first color and slide it over to the higher numbers and see which one looks identical by not seeing that color on the test paper. or just go by the color of the liquid and try matching to the color that is best to get results? I just want to check and see if I am doing this right. cause if I put the vial directs over the nitrate test kit it looks like it is the second color but then if I try to match up the pink color it looks higher.
