q's about neptune aqua jr

i am going to be picking one of these bad boys up and getting the dc8 along with it. I want to use 3 of the koralia 1's with the wave making functions on the acjr. I know you cant have constant on and off switching with these pumps but the dc8 says it has soft start up. Can this be used for the pumps to keep them from wearing out?

Just from my experience, no. I had 2 K1's on the wavemaker on the ACJr w/ 5min intervals, and they're toast now, didn't even last 2 weeks before they started making strange noises and knocking really bad on start up.

from what I've read, it's not a true soft start. I've been using seio820's on it for the last few months. Sometimes they knock on start up, but have been working so far. I've heard that if you use a normal powerhead instead of a prop style, they'll work great and last a long time, ie a maxi jet w/ no mod on it. I had the K1's and Maxi-mods on the wave timer and both went to hell in a few weeks. One of my k1's doesn't even work anymore.

Any of the outlets on the ACJr can be configured to do any of it's options. In essence you could use all 8 for lighting, or ph's, or temp, etc. The best way to do prop style power heads on a wave maker is to use ones like the Seio1100/1500, or Tunze streams that have their own controlers because they basically just lower the power to the pump and keep them spinning vs. turning them off and on.
