new pump for skimmer

I have what looks very much like an ASM G-2 w/ sedra ksp3500 pump (350gph) but with a pump that is froze and if I can't get it working then I need some help.

should I replace the pump or is this skimmer junk? If I replace the pump, should I use the same type of pump or should I look to a better pump.

no one has a clue if I should get another sedra pump or if there would be a better pump for the job. I just need some ideas as to what to do. this is my first attempt at a reef tank and it seems I have just taken over some one elese's problems.

This is hell, currently fighting: broken sump, pump, skimmer pump and his plumbing. Plus I got tons of aptasia and bubble from him.

What's wrong with the pump, it just won't work? If your pump has the ASM volute/venturi on it, just get a new pump. It'll cost less than getting a whole new skimmer. I'm not sure what the G2's are rated for, if they go as high as 125g truly, or if that's what the skimmer rating is. You can generally get sedra 3500's for pretty cheap on eBay and just swap out the volute/venturi on the skimmer pump for the new one, make sure you take the needlewheel impeller out as well and swap that. You might want to take a look inside the pump and make sure the impeller is ok, if any of the internals are broken you can pick those up at Customaquatic.com

I'm not the most knowledgeable at what size skimmer can handle what amount of air. The size pump you put on it will be determined on the size of the reaction chamber and neck size. a 3" neck can handle just under 20scfh of air and a 4" neck can handle 30ish scfh. You probably don't have an air meter to test, but since those pumps are pretty standard, I'm sure someone knows. Really, the only thing that would probably be recommended is to mesh mod the impeller w/ enkamat. Hopefully someone will chime in here to give some further assistance.
