Ebay skimmers

Anyone tryed any of those inexpensive skimmers found on ebay? Some look good but do they perform any good or just a big waist of money? A few of them look like some of the exspensive Asm skimmers I've seen?

I see a lot of JEBO on eBay. Don't know what that means, but in a lot of the listings, the punctuation and grammer is really bad. It makes me think they are made in and sold out of China or something.

I remain curious though, as I am in the market.

I would spend $100 more and get an octopus from a dealer.

The ps160 is decent if you mod it. 55g or less and in sump only. The ps75 works pretty well as a cheap hot. I wouldn't use it on anything larger than a 29g. The jebo520 looks to be the nicest one but imo you would need to turn it into a nw to really have a nice skimmer. It could easily work exactly like the ps150 octo extreme.

Is it possable to turn that pump into a NW or would I have to get a new pump to do that?

You could use that pump. You would have to dremel down the impeller blades, add a few layers of mesh and make a custom venturi, then replace the strange elbo on the skimmer and unrestrict the venturi they have in place.

Is that because the air is injected after the pump?

I've heard the same about octopus, but I can't fit one in my sump. I have only 13x7.5 to work with.

I'd pass on the current. Nothing I have heard is good about them so far. Cheap and effective skimmers = Octopus, like kb said. I run a modded nw200 I turned it into a recirc and changed out the pump. Its pulling 32scfh and moving 200gph water through it. Total cost 200bux.

One day of skimmate

Two days of skimmate....a bit over 24oz

I just don't see a better value of a skimmer out there especially modded.
