I got a spotted mandarin is my tank enough?
I got a spotted mandarin 4 days ago. I have a 90 gallon tank with 95lbs. of live rock. My tank is 13 months old. I have a little fuge in my sump with 5 lbs. of live sand and 5 lbs. of rubble rock. I seeded my tank with 400 pods yesterday. Will he be ok or do i have to do more?

I think you have enough to support a mandarin as long as you don't have another fish in the tank competing with him for the same food population. Good luck. Also, my mandarin unfortuately died after getting sucked into a pump inlet. So make sure any inlets are covered.

dont see why not
your system seems well established if its up and running for over year... and w/ 95 pounds of liverock... have you ever noticed pods at nite or on glass etc ? even before you added the pods if you ever saw any or even few - then you had many many more n the system. and you certainly have enough LR to support the mandarin! |

I don't mean to sound harsh, so please don't take this the wrong way. But isn't this a question that might have been good to ask before you purchased the mandarin?
There are things I want in my tank, too, but I always try to find out requirements and suitability of my tank before I buy anything. Otherwise, then I have the responsibility of finding whatever it is a new home, stressing it out with another move, etc. In any case, I think you may do fine with the Mandarin. I might suggest a bit more live rock to provide nooks and crannies for 'pods to populate, or a nice-sized 'fuge. But your tank size should be okay, and will hopefully sustain a good population of 'pods, if, as mentioned earlier, there's nothing else in your tank that'll feast on them, too. I hope he ends up fat and happy in his new home. |
