PH jump to 8.78
I have a PH monitor on my tank. It always holds steady
at 8.38 to 8.5. tonight it reads 8.78. I

How do the inhabitants look ? I ditched my pH meter years ago because the same thing used to drive me crazy but didn't bother the fish/corals. (They couldn't see the meter read out
![]() First thing to check for is missing/dead livestock. Second is to confirm all equipment is working properly. Third thing is to recheck in the morning if there's no obvious distress in the tank. If it doesn't drop to the low end of the normal range your chemistry is probably getting out of whack. That can usually be resolved using chemicals and buffers (not my choice) or water changes (my preference)

Do you callibrate it every now and then? My pinpoint instructions say once every 3 months.

I guess urine would be easier, but I think a real hardcore reefer would use blood!
