Turbo floater t1000

I just bought a turbo floater t1000 used. My question is do you have to hook up 2 pumps to it because there when I gave it a test fun using only one pump the water level in the skimmer barley went up but when I hooked up the second pump then it really went up to what looks like normal level with water flowing out of the top pipes. The main pump is a rio 2100 and the second one is a maxi-jet 400 any help would be appreciated thanks

great skimmer. One pump should be a recirculating pump. In this case, that's the rio. The other pump is just used to feed the skimmer. The alternative is to feed the skimmer from the tanks overflow.

So if I hook up a direct pipe from my overflow with just using gravity that is enough to feed the skimmer or should I hook up the pump to it?

i would gravity feed it. you should use a vavle though to be able to control the flow to the skimmer. you want about 100gph. the rest of your overflow should by pass the skimmer.

Here's the instruction manual for the T1000.
I used one for a few years. It worked fine. You can use gravity feed as long as that feed will supply enough water as required in the instructions.

I have used a Turboflotor 1000 Classic for years, it a decent skimmmer for the money. The MJ400 is probablt too small for a feed pump. I originally tried a MJ600 but it was also weak. i have used a MJ900 for almost 4 years now and it seems to be perfect.
I have both the Rio 2100 pump and the OceanRunner 2700 and found the OR to work better. There were also a couple of different needlewheel impellers and it seems like the one with the little balls on the ends of the needles works better than the one with just needles.
