Lighting needed for 75g Reef
I need a lighting system for a 75g reef tank. Mostly will have softies and LPS. Maybe one or 2 sps. I want to go Mh, the skimmer has caught my eye....
I have a budget of $500. I will run my tank topless with just fixture suspended over tank. I was looking at the Odyssea 48'' fixture for $379. I have had PC and dont like the look anymore. Suggestions/Comments??? TIA, Brad |

You could go with a couple of these to fit your budget. I run one of the 14ks and like it alot.
Each comes with a timer and 3 moon lights. They also have electronic ballasts so they run silent. My ballast runs at about room temp. They also have a height adjustment thats very simple, you just adjust the tension on the mounting unit and once set you can just pull it down or push it up and it sits werever you leave it. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_search...~Pendants.html

Have you checked out the Odyssea thread yet?
All the information about that fixture would be there. Just be careful about some of the general information that you may find that is not directly related to the fixture itself. There is a good amount of misinformation in that thread related to lighting in general. You could actually go with a couple of Lumenarc reflectors, electronic ballasts and bulbs for right around your 500 dollar budget. Check Reef Exotics for package deals. Or check Hello Lights for the ARO electronic ballasts, they may have the Lumenarcd reflectors as well, Im not sure. If you were planning to do halide only then the Lumenarc reflectors would be a great choice. The Lumenmax are also excellent but they cost more. You could do either SE or DE, your preference. Other dealers to check out for deals ... reefgeek.com or any of the RC sponsors really. |

Dave,
First off, thanks for the response. My head is spinning with all the options one has now. I like the 150w current pendants.... I could suspend them from above no problem. Is that enough light? 2- 150w? I like the bluer look, so I would probably go with the 14K bulbs. I would like to keep some clams too.. TIA |

I'd listen to dar. The current pendants are not going to cover your tank and i'd suggest 250w's as well. Either 2x250w or 6x54w t5.

I didn't see that in your first post that you wanted clams just saw the LPS an softys in that case definatly want to go 250 watt.

I get ignored alot Luke. but it's ok, typing for seemingly nothing is not as futile as it seems to be. It keeps the fingers limber for playing my axes.
This ones nothing though. I made the mistake of replying to something in the Odyssea thread. I tried to tell a member that an odyssea with a single halide would not give him good coverage for his 36" long tank. I even went out of my way to say that I was not bagging the fixture and that other combos with a single small halide reflector would not cover it either ... suggested a large lumenarc. Got ignored there too. My fault though, I should have known better. Anything that even hints at saying that the Odyssea fixture cant do anything and everything either gets ignored or is taken as an insult and gets you flamed in that thread. Denial is nothing but a river in Egypt according to the Odyssheads. It's almost a bad cult Sorry for hijacking your thread ... |

Great Fixture, I have the 36" model and like it alot. Even If you swap out all of the bulbs and get higher end bulbs, its still under 500.

2x250w MH only and you can keep anything you want. Current makes a Sunpod Pro model. I use their 48" 150w model with great results. I like the product.
