Bermuda Protein Skimmer

Hey, I am planning the purchase of the Bermuda BPS-3C for my new 36g corner and sump.

My cabinet space was only 16x11 so a powerful skimmer with a small footprint was necessary. Frank's Tanks in Fort Worth, Tx swears by them. He has 3 DT's and his entire store running off of Bermuda PS. The BPS-3C has a 5x7" footprint which should fit snuggly in my skimmer section (8.5x10.5").

I plan on running a Quiet One 3000 (780gph) on the skimmer because a) I love Quiet One pumps, and b) again they have a small footprint (4.25x3.75")

Does anyone own one of these skimmers?? I've heard good things about them. What's your experience with them?

Also, I do not know nor can I find any information of what operation water level they should sit in. I almost feel as though it doesn't matter. I'd love nothing more than to do a 12" baffle height.

Finally, does anyone know if the inlet and outlet pvc is adustable? Can you turn it to aim in different directions?

Funny thing,

I mean just as I hit submit post... Bermuda returns my phone call from this morning!!

So anyways, all Bermudas have been updated to include gate valves for returns. So the pictures I see online for this particular model are incorrect... and they have been updated to operate in 10.5" of water with a gate valve. Awesome!!

So, does anyone have any good/bad stories with these skimmers?

The Bermuda 3C had a slip coupler before the gate valve so yes, it was adjustable. That adjusted the water level in the skimmer and it also could be rotated. The input has a union before the venturi (or Schletz or whatever they call it now) so it too can be rotated.

Very good skimmer. Kicked the crap out of a stock Octopus recirc on my 90 gallon. Wasnt embarrased by a DAS EX-2 either. The DAS produces a little more skimmate in the same period of time and will hand a larger tank. But that little Bermuda is a very effective skimmer. Your pump choice should handle it fine.

I ran it externally. Water level will vary between just below where the clear main body meets the flat top where the neck starts to maybe an inch below that.

I kept the bermuda to use as a back-up in case I lose a pump on the DAS. I know I wont lose much performance if I ever need to put it back in service. Never had to adjust it either. Once it broke in and I had it dialed in, I never had to adjust the water height.

It's a good purchase, good luck with it.

Thanks!

I feel really good about this protein skimmer. It fits exactly what I need, and should be a great skimmer for my BB 36g corner tank.
