Should I use egg crate on the bottom???
I got this last night, just in case, as I was picking up some PVC pipes, GFI outlets, etc...
Is it recommended to use these egg crates in the bottom to prevent an accident with a rock? or the sand bed is enough to absord the fall if it happens?? I am putting in 200lbs of sand...

If you are going to have a deep sand bed, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you only plan to use an inch or so, then yes... I would put it on the bottom under the sand.

I use it especially with sand, as when you move around LR you need to bury the rock so its against the bottom.. otherwise you risk collapse as the sand shifts.
If there is no egg crate, its very easy to grind the rock into the glass. On bare bottoms, I would go with something like seaboard.

I have a dsb and use it: it provides security against burrowing fishes and prevents your rock's sharpest points from being the only contact points on fragile glass. In engineering or glasswork, the more spread-out any pressure, the safer.

in this other thread its suggested that it stops worms moving about and leads to nitrate build up... im trying to work out whether to put it on the bottom of my new tank or not
