TDS doesn't really tell you anything about your quality of tap water, though. It's just used to determine how well your RO/DI is filtering out all the contaminants.

TDS tells you how much junk you have in your water, but doesn't tell you the composititon. If you have low TDS water, but all those solids are copper, its still going to kill all your inverts.

some comparison

distilled water--90 per cent free of dissolved substance
r/0 water --95 per cent
r/0 di water--100 per cent

our tap water has been as high as 195 on the meter.

The lower your TDS the less gunk the filter has to deal with, so in theory yes.

IMO, LFS is trying to make a sale!!!! Test water for Alk, Cal after salt mix, I do not know what salt you are using, I have a reef with fish, RC is right now low on Ca, and Mag. from what they say it sould have, fish only IO is fine. I know off the topic a bit, but every little bit of knowlegde is good!!

you do not need to buffer RO water.
