Reserve Water

Is it okay to leave my extra water in a 30 gallon plastic barrel? I have a powerhead and a heater in there. I haven't mixed any salt or anything because I'm afraid that I can't do this. How long do I have before the water goes bad?

Is it RO/DI water? As long as you have it circulating it should be fine..

I'd be kind of worried about using tap water or well water as you might get bad stuff growing in there if you leave it for too long.

Not sure about the heating bit, maybe someone else can help with this one... I just know that heat not only makes bacteria more active but it also reduces the amount of available oxygen in the water... Seems to me like it will start breeding anaerobic bacteria (the kind you don't want.)
