Sand?

Is a 1.5 inch sand bed of sugar grade sand the right depth for my 55 fowl. What is the right depth to provide good filteration? Is a more coarse grade better?

Well a deep sand bed is better for filtration purposes (3-4 inch or 165 to 220 pounds) but what you have (1.5 or 82.5) is good enough and on the rules. Well the coarseness doesn't matter but don't and i repeat don't use crushed coral (it might cause problems in the future).
