Banghi Cardinal Fry?

I have a male and female pair of Banghi Cardinal's. They are healthy and happy. I've always suspected that they would breed as they are well known to do that in captivity.

At tonight's feeding the male did not eat; and he normally eats like a horse. His mouth is closed very tight and open just enough to get water through his gills.

Does this sound about right for a pair of Banghi that spawned? The male is the one who broods so it appears that way to me.

Any thoughts?

Well...it's confirmed; the male is brooding!!!!!

He opened his mouth tonight in a sort of yawn and inside what did I find to my somewhat surprise?

A mouthful of eggs!

We're prego

Cool, 22-26 days you should see some babies, I raised hundred's of babys with nothing more than cyclopeze as 100 percent of their diet from day one. good luck!

Talk to me X; did you keep them in your DT or did you remove them to a separate tank? As for feeding, I feed my non symbiotic corals live DT's with a mixture of frozen and freeze dried cyclopeeze every night so the water column is rich with very small particulate food.

Most of my fish are really well fed so could they make it in the DT?

No he will not eat at all. I worked out the days so I knew when they had hatched in his mouth, I would wait a few more days after they hatched and would wait until late at night and stun the male with a bright light and net him, as soon as I would net him he would spit out all the babies (25- 40 everytime). I would put them in a 2 gallon glass tank with window screen over the top and put them in my refugium, I would squirt thawed cyclop's into them 6-8 times a day...this was a very successful way of raising them 85% or more without fail everytime.

I doubt it, they are very small when they are first born, one will easily fit on the top of a pencil eraser. I would flood them with the cyclop's to make sure they got way more than they needed with no competition from any other fish.
