Could my New Tx5 be causeing Ich from stress in light change

Just got a new Tx5 3 days ago and now my Tangs are COVERED in Ich ... AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!

I understand the life of the parasite because i had it once before in my tank. I left it alone and it dropped off the fish and never came back. This was about a year ago

I know that stress can cause Ich in fish.. so i was wondering if the new lighting my be freakin the tangs out ? Now should i worry that this process is going to take over the tank

I also just got a new tang about 3 weeks ago, I guess he must have bought it in to the tank. I know i should have used a Q\tank

taking the the fish out to treat them would be great if i could do it, But there is so much live rock that there is just no way to remove them and plus they are bigger sized fish and i dont really have the q\tank to suppot them

So my question is if i just leave it alone again like i did last time do you think it will go away or did i just get lucky last time ? and could it be the upgrade to the light stressing everyone out ?

You got lucky last time. Very lucky.

Go out and buy several cleaner shrimp and let them go to work. Do this ASAP.
Do not underestimate ich. It will kill the inhabitants of your tank if you do not treat it quickly.

Yes it could. If this is the only thing differant you have done then chances are great. Whenever new lights are added or new bulbs you should always cut amount of mian light and bring back up slowly. But i would think this could also be from other factors as if fish where healthy and water quality high then it may have not happened or been much slower.

Cleaner shrimp will do nothing in the battle vs ich. There is no way they can. The spots you see are irritants above where the parasite has lodged into the body. They cannot pull the parasite out. There was a study done on the stomach contents of cleaner shrimp and ich was never found.

I highly doubt the new lighting had anything to do with it. You placed a new fish, a tang at that, into your system without QTing it. Thats where it came from. During those 3 weeks the parasite multiplied its number in your substrate and now you are seeing a large outbreak.

I would take all the fish out and treat them all with hypo. While doing that keep your tank fallow for 6-8 weeks. Im sorry to hear about that.

Below are a few links to fully understand the life cycle or ich and some different methods of handling it.

You may need several cleaner shrimp. I ran into the same problem. Some just won't go near the fish.

The higher light could have triggered it.But they where on there way .They can fight off ich but whene stressed have no chance. The new light will trigger algea growth changeing chemistry and just fueling the fire. Fish dont react the same as coral with lighting but will become stressed with almost any big change in the system.
Its hard to really tell with such little info but if this was the only change to the system for awile then its hard to ignore.

Tangs seem to be fairly sensitive to any kind of change, lighting, re-aquascaping etc. It would have helped to slowly adjust the fish and corals to higher intensity lighting. But obviously ich was already present. Are you able to qt it? You don't need a large tank, a rubbermaid garbage can works fine and is big enough for almost any fish. If you don't treat it, large tank swings might keep it coming back...

If you would have read the op he stated that he slowly adjusted the lighting schedual. Started with 5 hours and then pump it up a half hour every couple of days. Like I said before adding cleaner shrimp will do nothing. If you cant remove everything I would try Ruby Reef Kick Ich. That seems to be the only reef safe ich medication that actually works. It worked well for me and people that buy it from my LFS swear by it.

The lighting could have stressed them out a bit and lowered there immunity and now this is what you have. The cleaner will not rid you of an outbreak and if you don't treat they will most likely die

I would feed them seaweed w/ kent garlic extreme to boost their immune system. Also get a neon goby you can find them at a LFS. I like them over the shrimp. This had seem to work for me.

Sorry I missed that. I still stand by the rest of it though
