Lighting 120g
I am researching lighting for a 48x24x24 which I intend to be a mixed reef with some sps at mid to top level. At some point it may get sps dominated but not for many years. I would like some opinions on what fixture or pendant to use.
Cost is a factor, so I would prefer to spend under $1000. (Don't laugh) I want to use 20k or 14k mH, and I was thinking two 250w, along with supplemental actinic t5's (I already have t5's, no they are not individual reflectors but are fine for supplemental and creating dawn/dusk) What fixtures people? Pendants? Combo ideas that aren't crap but aren't over 1k I would like brand names and if you have a link to show me what you use or would use post it pretty please! |

I picked up my lights from sarris underwater creations. They have lumenarc mini's with the stealth reflectors on phonix or radiums and coralvue ballasts, two for around 650. I love them on my 120 and they get pretty good growth and great color. You could then always get a tek T-5 retrofit for supplementation or for actinics.

It really depend on the look you want. Are you going w/a canopy or not. I have a Maristar fixture that look really nice hanging from the ceiling. I do not have a problem w/ heat vs pendant in a canopy. I'm trying to go away not having a chiller. Hamilton, lumenarc mini pendant and I also like 14k Phoenix w/ a blue/white color.

I use a tek 48" 6 bulb t5 fixture on my 5' long 120 g. I have 4 of the same individual 36" t5 strips for dusk dawn lighting too

I just received my Nova Extreme 8x54 for my 120. The light looks great and should support a lot of growth...for now anyway.
