Circulating Pump GPH for 55 Gal ?

Hi Guys

I'm setting up a 55 Gal tank for Fish and LPS, what is the recommended number of water cycles per hour ?

I've read anything from 5 times to 8 times an hour

Would a 600-700GPH pump be sufficient, it will be sump based with a head of approx 4'

My CPR overflow says its 800GPH with a 1 inch bulk head that i may reduce as i wanted to plumb the tank with flexible hose.

I've looked at the calculators on this forum but can't see which one is relevant

Any recommendations on a pump make thats reasonably priced would be helpfull too

Cheers

i am a strog believer in low sump flow. Onloy go 3-5x per hour thru sump. Use power heads or a closed loop for the flow in the tank, never rely on return pump for flow. That being said i wouold shoot for around 200 gph flow thru sump. An eheim 1250 would be a great pump for you. You can put a vlave on the return line and adjust it to your needs. Eheims are great pumps, low heat and excellent reliability. Also look into ocean runners

I use a MJ1200 for my 55, so I'm getting right at 1.5 turnovers per hour. Works great.
