Help with tank brace styles

I am not sure if this is in the right forum. Is a tank considered equipment? I am looking for pictures of the glass bracing styles in reef aquariums. (No old school AGA plastic top & bottom ring brace) I imagine most of you that had / have build threads from the start took a few shots of the new empty tank. The reason I am looking is that we are going to have a 48X36X25 tank made & I want to be well informed when ordering. Some manufactures I have heard call it brick, others euro etc.

I believe the brick style tanks are custom Oceanic tanks that have no bracing, but do have plastic trim to cover the glass edges.

Eurobracing is there 3"-5" wide strips of glass are used around the endges for added strength in stead of using crossbracing. This will likely be your best option on a tank that size.

It would also be possible to get a rimless and braceless tank. Think straightwalls with a nice polished edge.

A good place to see pics is to surf around the large tank forum.

AO eurobrace

customclimates, I'm not sure if you're doing glass or plexiglass...but my 3 year old custom, starfire tank from AO just sprung a leak. I'm not sure if its due to the eurobrace or the quality of the silicon seals; but the front left seal just gave way gushing water onto my floor in the middle of the night.

my tank wasn't huge @ 90 gallons. you would think that size tank would last forever.

I am going to have it made with the low iron glass. I do not want rimless. I definitely want the 3" strips. In my opinion I would think it is a much sturdier tank. Please understand I am in no way saying it is a better tank with the braces…It is just my opinion. If I where an expert in tank designs you would think I would be up a bit more on the terminology & styles. LOL

Thinking about going with Glasscages. A lot of my decision has to do with the bottom line … $$$! I have got a few quotes from other manufactures with shipping cost included. I can not believe the spread for quotes on that size tank.

I'd look for the best quality builder not the best price. At the time, I thought my AO was a good price for a good build. 3 years later my tank leaked from a front seam.

Well, assuming that they would still build the tank with the same thickness glass, it will be a better (stronger) tank with the eurobracing.

A tank that size would likely be built with 1/2" glass and a 4" eurobrace.
