Arrow Wavebox info

What pump and controller is best for a medium sized wavebox? It will be for a 125g tank. Anyone know what pump tunze uses in their wavebox and if a tunze 7091 controller would work? I'm not familiar with any of tunze's products, so anything roughly equivalent would work as well. Thanks in advance.

I have the Tunze wave box. I cannot say for sure, but the pump looks similar to my 6100 pump.

As for the controller, you do not need one. The wave box comes with its own and you will want to use that controller to create the wave.

its either a 6100 or a 6200 i think, the wave box controller works different than all the other controllers

I was curious about the controller because I plan to have the wave box built into my next tank, so buying the whole tunze wavebox would be a waste of money in my situation. However I would still need a controller and pump.

How does the wavebox controller differ from other controllers? I thought it just simply cycled the pump on and off at what ever speed you set to create the balanced wave effect. As long as a controller has a variable pulse setting that goes down to at least one second increments, I would think it would work fine, no?

If you guys are interested, I DIY'ed a wavebox. Here's the video:

I used a 6100 and a custom controller, which is essentially a clone of their 6091 with "some" other features

Thats perfect. Any info on your controller build? How would you make the wave smaller/slower, by slowing it down or making the box smaller or actually just using a smaller pump? I want only about a 1" wave on a 6' 125g tank. I saw a vid of someone doing just that with a mj-1200. Not sure on his controller usage. Either way, 1200gph is much less than the 3000-5000 range I was originally thinking I would need.

Tunze wavebox using the 6200 pump but the 6100 transformer. The new wavebox come with 6265 pump and the AC adapter is belong to the 6101.

The controller is just a simple 555 timer circuit that pulses the +8v on the Tunze's blue box. You will have to fine tune the controller to get a shorter wave.

I believe the wavebox motor also goes in reverse which fills the box with water then pumps it back out to make the wave.

The Tunze does not go in reverse. You can watch as the box fills back up as the wave moves to the other side of the tank and if you have it timed right, it kicks on when the box is at the top and pumps all of the water out causing a new wave.

I have watched mine several times and you can adjust the time based on how close the box fills to the time that the top of the wave hits the box. If you are dead on, so is the wave to box filling.

Nah. The water pressure difference from the higher level in the tank vs. the lower level in the box forces the water back into the box until they pump kicks back on again.
