Wow. Lawyers taking over the hobby...
I was looking at the posting history of somebody who wanted to buy my equipment and came across what seems like a bunch of nonsense in a California forum:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hreadid=703975 Apparently they have banned all "For Sale" and "WTB" posting and associated activity from their forum here at Reef Central. They seem to be afraid that if they allow members to engage in such activity, it hurts their non-profit status. Are they just being dumb (since this board belongs to RC and not them) or is there something to this? |

I would make a comment but I think I would get banned for the choice of words I would use.

I did not read all of it but it look like you can sell/buy but you have to do it in the right room. I don't think it matters if you do it in your own forum like the one you all have

They were saying you had to go to the general Selling Forums for RC. RC policy, though, says post in your reef club forum first. They electively banned themselves from $$$ exchange posts in their RC club forum because of fear of losing non-profit status. Odd.

I too think it's really odd since it's not the CLUB that's selling or trading corals. It's the individual. I could see MAYBE having a problem if the club was selling corals or frags or something...but good lord...people need to get the stick outta their butts and not worry so much IMO.

I checked other California forums after I saw this post and there were "FS: xxx" and "WTB: xxx" all through them. I don't know what local issues they may have, but as of now I'd hate to be in the neighborhood association with those in the link above...

Ya I think the nonprofit excuse is real funny as the club doesn't own RC and non profit doesn't mean you don't sell things you get in more trouble talking religion or politics as a non profit.
