Dino or Cyano?
I need some help identifying my problem. I want to make sure I'm treating it right.
I've got a rust-brown film over parts of my sand bed. It disappears at night, but comes back during the day, particularly when my MH lights turn on. It forms small clear bubbles later in the day. The film forms kind of a mat that can be sucked out when I do my water changes with minimum disruption to the sand. No measureable ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates. Mg ~ 1500 Ca ~ 450 KH ~15 (I don't seem to be able to bring this down.) I use RO/DI for top-off water and my weekly 5% changes. Is it Cyano or Dinos? Thanks, Jon |

Sounds like cyano.
Dino's usually appear like slime. Green or brown with air bubbles (actually C02 I believe). The fact that it disappears at night sounds alot like cyano as well. How long has your system been up and running?

I had a problem with cyano until I put another jet in to circulate the water better. All of my still spots would end up with the stuff after a few hours of removal until i added the pump.
