My friends just died. It has been in his tank for around 6 months and he couldn't get it to eat anything prepared. He did some research and said that he read some just don't do well in captivity. His never got used to seeing it's own reflection. There are other blennys that people have more success with,

For the short time that I had him he also chased his own reflection. I even put nori in there and he never even touched it. I guess it is just a hit or miss with those guys.

I have one that is fat and happy, but he won't touch the hair algae that is all over my reef! So basically, he is just for entertainment value and does not serve his original porpose.

I am also having hair algae problems and would like to get one of these fish. Has anybody had a case where the fish did eat hair algae and sift sand?

Mine ate the hair algae non stop. He got so fat I thought he would burst. All the Algae is gone and he eats nori and green seaweed non stop. Great personality, kind of like a dog.

I got mine last week and he is very selective. He has only eaten algae on the walls of my tank but not n the rock where most of it is. Hopefully he will move to the rocks soon.

Many years ago I had one, it a great personality and made 'kiss' marks on the glass getting algae off the glass, but it didn't eat any of the algae on the rocks. It was fat and happy for a couple of years, then passed on without any signs of disease. Great fish though.

They will generally eat "fine" algae, and not the real thick mats of hair algae. I have heard that it is hit or miss with these fish. Mine will pick at the rocks and walls, but when he sees me coming with the nori he waits patiently until I clip it, then the foxface and him go to town on it at the same time. It's usually history in a couple of minutes

Mine eats algae all the time. He doesn't touch the sand though?! Didn't know they were supposed to...

Mine did nothing but chase his reflection for the 3 days that I had him and I found the poor little guy/girl dead last night. I may try again. They are alot of fun to watch.
