floating debris in my tank

Well i got the Aqua medic turbo flotor multi SL skimmer for about 1 year+ now. I noticed that when im turkey blasting debris off the live rock, the skimmer pump isnt really "sucking" the debris in..... it uses an ocean runner 2500 i believe... anyone know what the problem is? I heard these pumps dont require cleaning at all......

or is this normal? as in skimmers dont filter floating debris?

Skimmers work by attracting dissolved organic solids to the top of the collection cup by using microbubbles. They are not used for filtering free floating debris in the tank. A filter sock would be helpful in dealing with this.
