is this algae good or bad?

I just noticed a small amount of purple algae on a few rocks. Its not coralline. It kinda looks like hair algae, but purple and more slimmy. How do I get rid of it?

Josh

You can get an algae bomb to get rid of it.

Sounds like red slime.2 most common culprits are water source and flow. But there are other factors. If tank is new then its more likely those. If tanks mature and then you see its could be over feeding or stocking or CUC.

Its most likely Cyano, it happens to a lot of tanks in the very beginning before the tank is completely established. Check on nitrate and phosphate levels to make sure they are 0 or very close.

Thanks for your help...all of my water is in check. I may just need more powerheads, I thought I had more then enough. The tank is about 5 months old, could that be it?
