Dual Overflows

Hey all,

Well i am trying to plan how to use the two one inch overflows in my 50 gallon. I am thinking one to go to the sump and one to go the the Fuge. The sump/fuge is an old 29 gallon that i have. MY question is what is the easiest way to make it so i could control how much flow goes to the fuge and the rest would go to the sump overflow. I was thinking a ball valve but not sure where to put it i will try and get some pictures of what i am thinking.

Thanks,

Beef

I've done the same thing before I just made a giant "U-tube" to go between the sump + fuge. It turned out to be quite a pain in the butt so I just plumbed the two together. The problem is keeping both "sumps" filling and returning in harmony so that one or the other won't run dry. The Big U-tube is a great temporary fix for this if you dont mind jiggling out bubbles once a week.

I have a 1" and a 1.5" on my 120. I ran my 1.5 gravity to my skimmer, and then to my fuge. And the smaller 1" overflow i use as a backup (it is a little higher up in my tank).

I have gate valves on everything, too many i think, but at least i can tweak everything as well.

Pictures

Hey,

Here are the pictures that I made up real fast.

This is of my idea for the sump. It is a 29 gallon that is 30" long Let me know what you think.

Here is a shot of the back as I want to try. I would set the ball valve to only let what I want to go to the Fuge and the rest would go to the sump. Will this setup work out correctly.

Thanks for taking a look and here is a few other shots.

And finally a wireframe shot of the setup to see the plumbing

Anyone? Will this setup work and allow me to only send so much to the Fuge and the rest would go to the sump. I am using a quiet one 3000 as the return.

Thanks.

My left drain splits with a T, one side to the refugium, the other side of the T going to the rigth side where the skimmer is.
I put a ball valve on the pipe going to the refugium and a ball valve going towards the sump so I can dial them in depending how much flow I want to the refugium.
The right drain goes direct to the right sump side where the skimmer is.

It is made in 3D Studio Max, that is what I am going to school for and I decided to make a project out of this. This was just a quick mock up. Next is to model all the plumbing like it really is and then add the water hopefully. I want to try and make it at least look like it would when it is finished. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks Alve,

Looks like I am ready to go then, I will just have to go get a few more parts and the tank from the glass shop. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to start the build thread about this tank finally.
