filling with water for first time?

Hi all,
A couple more questions, I'm collecting my aquarium this week and will be installing the sump and pipe work etc, I was wondering if it would be ok to test for leaks with tap water and if so is there anything I need to do after draining the tap water so it doesn't contaminate the good stuff.
Secondly to fill the system with salt water from the LFS would cost me approx £80 and take a few trips. I am getting the following RO/DI system
http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id/258
is this the kind of system I need and do you usually need a booster pump?
If I use the above system to produce enough RO water can I do the mixing with the salt in the tank, if so do you add the sand before or after filling with water. The other option would be to add the sand to the empty tank premix the salt water in containers and add to the tank?
how do you usually fill the tank for the first time?
Thanks

Hi
I am from the UK and have the 50gpd version of that unit, excellent choice, just be careful to follow the insructions and flush the pre filter and carbon (without it going into the membrane) for about 10min, then connect up the membrane and discard the first 25L. I use the booster pump with mine as the tap pressure is only 40psi (booster will take it up to 100psi and is worth it's weight in gold as it doubles the output). If you are not using live sand then add water and then pour in salt to mix, if using live sand then pre-mix water first in buckets.
Hope this helps.

Barry

I tested my tank with tap water. I drained it and let it dry then filled it with RO water, added the salt and let it mix with the power heads. After it had mixed well I addded the sand and live rock. Worked great that way.

Good Luck

we put our live sand down, a garbage bag ontop, then added our salt ontop of the bag, added the water and removed the bag, it didn't seem to kill the pods or life in the sand.
