added 1st 2 fish 3 days no change in water yet
hi i have cycled my tank. it was very quick but had water tested at LFS. they said that it looked like it had. did a 50% water change and added to small clowns. i was wondering when i should see a change in ammonia nitrite. i also have a red powdery growth on back of tank. is this slime or Coraline? thank you. i have about 15Kg of LR.

How long took your cycling and did you used fully cycled rock?
If you did things right you should not see any increase in ammonia. The powdery growth is most probably only diatomaceous (diatoms) alge. Just wipe it off and expect cycles of algae growth as the cycling advances. Keep feeding just enough for the fish at this point and add some cleaning crew if you have not already.

thank you for answering. i am using 100% RO. i cycled my tank with un cured live rock and lve sand. i had a small ammonia peak then a large nitrate peak. the nitrate when of my chart by the time my nitrite and ammonia had dropped to zero. this all happened with in 2 weeks. did 50% water change added fish 3 days later ammonia and nitrite still zero.

Keep up the water changes to keep lowering your nitrates to mitigate the algae blooms.
Even with no ammonia I think the tank was not completely cycled. Use a powerhead to manually blow off the detritus on the rock before each water change.

Hi
I usually change 15% every other week, dont do anymore 50% changes unless there is an emergency ie high ammonia. Barry |
