First Coral

OK I bought a toadstool mushroom leather for my 75 gallon soon to be reef. The lighting right now is weak although I read that these guys can parcticly live in very dim lighting. I currently have dual t-8 which are both 10000k i believe.

Now I know this is not enough for my softy to grow although it will keep him alive and happy for a few months right?? like seriously probably only a month. I put him about 12-16" away from the actual bulbs.

My question is how long is it until he actually opens up?? right now he is clamped up into a fist from transport. How long is it until he really opens up like at the store???

Now since my lighting is weaker I am going to leave it on for about 12 hours a day. Is there anything else I can do to make him happier with the dimmer lighting for a while?? like feeding anything??

is there anyway to move it higher in the tank? 12-16" away from the bulbs and he isn't getting much par if any so he may not open up for a while. I have noticed mine like high light. mine stared out the size of a 50 cent peice 1 year ago and here is a pic. of it today. top left corner in my 75 gal.. and that is under 2 400 watt MH's. now they can survive in low light just prob. won't grow. From my past experience you need more light. I bought some shrooms & they stayed closed for some time. I thought that it was from the move but they were like that for 2 weeks.
My LFS said that they need more light. I got a better lighting set up & in 1 day they opened up and are larger then life.

Just my experience..................Good Luck

I'd move it up as high as you can in the tank until you upgrade the lighting.

It could be a few days before he opens up again, especially if you move him again. Avoid touching the flesh while you move him, they don't like it.
