Noisey return

There is a hole in my return pipe at the last 90 degree before it goes over the overflow. I believe its a spihon break but not 100% sure though. The hole that is there makes a ton of noise there is water coming out of it and I am not sure if its hitting the back of the overflow or what it is doing I put my finger over the hole and my tank really quiets down. Is there any thing that I can do to stop the noise?

It is the syphon break, I do not have any ideas how to quiet, but someone will.

Could you plug that hole, and drill a new one just below the surface of the water on the return pipe?

Not sure how your return plumbing looks once it goes into your display from the overflow. On my tank, I have segmented loc-line going into the display from the last 90 in the overflow. At any rate, if you have some return plumbing in your display that you could drill your anti-siphon holes in, I'd look at doing that and completely blocking off that hole in your overflow plumbing. I keep my returns pretty high in my tank, so between that and the anti-siphon holes being up high too, I don't get a lot of backflow into the sump with power outages.

That hole should be just below the water line.

shooter7 I also have lock line that enteres the main display after the the overflow and mine is barely under the water what I am goingto try is to drill a hole maybe in the loc line itself somewhere and try to fill that other hole up I don't keep the loc line that far under the water surface. What are some of the methods to plugging that noisey siphon hole?

I drilled two holes in each return loc line, a couple inches apart. Make sure you do it on the bottom of the tube. Clean them out with a toothpick at least once a month or so.

i just siliconed the siphon break in my return line. my tank is virtually silent except the slight hum of my skimmer. I LOVE IT. Thanks guys ive been trying to figure this out for a while but didn't think of plugging it and re drilling a new one below the water line.

For An411 i suggest you do the same thing i did. It makes a huge difference.

Just wanted to update you guys I ended up filling the old siphon hole and drilling a new one in the locline that comes out. Worked like a charm 1000000 times quieter I couldn't stand it anymore. Thanks for the ideas guys
