FW Dip?

I am sort of confused on the process of FW dipping fish and corals. I know it removes parasites, bacteria, etc. But what do you actually do? I researched FW dipping and basically i see it as getting a small container, put RO/DI water in it that has equal PH and temperature to the main display, let the coral or fish stay in the container for about 10mins, then acclimate it to the main display.
Is this right?

that's about right but 10 minutes might be a little long for a stony coral. 1-2 minutes with a good shake should be enough. Zoanthids can tolerate a little longer.

Also make sure you have elevated the oxygen levels of the water otherwise the fish will die quickly as there would be none in new RO. Also make sure you watch the fish some can tolerate longer periods than others. 10minutes is the max I would leave the fish in for. Most bacteria and parasites will burst within 5 minutes or less but again watch the fish.

So could you just do the dip instead of having to use a Quarantine tank??
