Gen X 4100 pump on a ASM Skimmer?? Will it work?
My Sedra 9000 pump quit working on my ASM 4X and Im exploring different pumps to use for replacement.
I see that the Gen X 4100 was used by Euroreef for a bit and are affordable. So I was wondering if: 1. the Gen X 4100 would be a direct replacement for the Sedra 9000. 2. Any mods that I need to do? (ie neck size) 3. can I purchase the regular pump and mesh mod it or do I need to get the needle wheel version? 4. Any other recomendation for other pumps and model number? Thanks for all your help. |

I'd get the NW, its only a few bux more if that. It will pull around 40scfh pretty easy and it will work just fine on that skimmer. The 4x has a 4" neck? The best air for this skimmer will be around 32-35scfh. Its as simple as a removing the top layer of NW, and adding a 3 layer enkamat meshmod and a venturi mod

thanks for the reply. Do you have a link where to buy the 4100 for a good price?
Also just to confirm that the 4100 is a good replacement for the Sedra 9000. Also, what is the venturi mod? do you have a link? thanks again! |

Seems like all teh prices i'm finding is around 60-75bux : ( They use to be in the 40's. Well, here's my advice on that skimmer. Go to aquatraders and pick up a odyssea wp1000. It will pull up to 55scfh at 70-80w, never have startup probs and is very easy to do. You have to take the paddlewheel impeller and grind it down and add 4 layers of mesh, then use a 1/4" hose barb adapter as the air injector. You use a 3/4" male thread to do this with a small piece of 3/4" pvc. Its very easy and i'll be happy to show you pics wnen you get the pump. Its 39.99. It won't be to much flow as its around 500-700gph with air. HTH

Luke, thank you. So you prefer the Odyssea over the Gen X 4100? Also, you stated "It won't be to much flow as its around 500-700gph with air" will this power my big skimmer?
It seems that you know alot about pumps, so if you think this is better and will fit my G4X, then I will do. but How hard is the venturi portion? Also, will the neck portion fit into the 90 degree into the skimmer? Can you email me the pixs to hipertec @ yahoo . com |

Sure. I"m actually modding a couple right now so i'll take some pics for you when i do it. Yes, i like the wp1000 more than the genx4100 for a couple reasons. The price is better for one, the wattage is nearly the same, the genx's sometimes have exposed metal which rusts and the wp's can pull more air. All good reasons to me. The input and output on them is 3/4" if that helps and it is a female threaded input and output. HTH So its like a gen x or sedra in that case. I forget what the output size is for the 9000, i think its the same.

G4X uses a 1" street Ell. You could always use an adapter to go from 3/4" to 1"
Why not just buy another non pinwheel sedra 9000, and reattach the pinwheel from your old pump. |

Also, since its a 1" elbow, will this effect the performance from original 3/4" to 1"? |

No chance it will hurt performance and the wp1000 will pull 35-55scfh compared to the 9000 which will do around 20scfh. You will only need the 35 though.

To remove the pinwheel from the rotor(magnet) gently pry with a flat tip screwdriver, or butterknife. it comes off pretty easily. I think they're glued on with a solvent like weld-on. All you have to do is break it loose, and it will come off. |
