my suggestion would be to return the foxface, and remove that rock with all the pests all over it, and nuke them with kalkwasser paste ot lemon juice or something equally potent. otherwise, it looks nice!

Unless you have a larger tank for your rabbit fish I would suggest you trade him at your lfs. He will out grow your tank and not be very happy

Do I see barnacles and a flame scallop? Correct me if I'm wrong, but neither of those tend to do well in captivity as far as I know.

I thought those "anemones" were another kind of aptasia....
If they are green frilly mushrooms I will be happy...cause I have them all over my tank, but they are not colonized like mushrooms would be, they are randomly scattered. |

well i looked up frilly mushrooms and those look absolutely nothing like these. It does look very much like the aptasia though. What a bummer. From what i can tell it says that the best methods of getting rid of them are either feeding them calcium directly, or purchasing some peppermint shrimp. If i did the shrimp, then would it move on to the coral frags after the aptasia is gone? Or would i just be better off with the calcium method?

kalkwasser, not calcium. mix kalkwasser into a thick paste and use a syringe to direct it in the face/mouth of the anemone.
peppermint shrimp may or may not eat aptasia anemone, but they don't bother coral IME. |

majano....I have never heard of that. So, do they hurt anything to have them in the tank. I have them randomly around mine, and wondering if they are worth the effort of trying to get rid of.

honestly. they are far less invasive than aptasia. and will often stay in little patches. they can be no more of a nuisance than xenia if thats the case. but you can kill them easily enough with a shot of vinegar or the usual aptasia methods

agreed
well i went to my LFS today to get some peppermint shrimp and joes juice combo. but naturally they were out of the shrimp and didnt carry Joe's Juice. But he did carry Aiptasia control made by Blue Life. I figured what the hell. After all the researching and staring into my tank i did see a few things that did look like that anyhow. So i purchased it and used it now. everything seems to be going fine. The Majano's all seem to be shrivelling up and turning into what looks like a spot of calcium. It was really easy to use and doesn't appear to have harmed anyhting near it at all. So far...Success!!

Well I don't have any experience with actually killing them. But I know they can disappear into the rock. So I hope they don't come back with a vengence. I've read several times that sometimes they just work all the harder at propogating themselves after being attacked. I think I have one in my tank that's tiny and so new I can hardly see it. I just shoved it in the back and put it so that it would be in a dark spot not as likely to get food. I don't know if I would try and get rid of it or any of them. The majanos aren't bad looking. The aptasia can die!
I've read again and again the shrimp won't eat the majanos. Suzi |

i disagree. these things are considered pests because they can sting corals. and- judging by his "new reef" i'd say they reproduce too fast for my liking.
destroy all pests, before they take over. it's just the right thing to do. because, they can, and will, take over. |

they are pests and can spread pretty quick. also of note they pull off rock much easier than aptasia. when i had them i injected them with vinegar than plucked them with tweezers. i have not had a majano in a over a year now

I figured worst case scenario that i would kill something I didn't pay for rather than let it kill something i did. Been a few hours now, and my reef still appears happy.
