tank upgrade question

I am unsure of how to safely upgrade my tank. Right now I have a 29g tank which I am looking to use as the sump for my upgrade (which will be somewhere between 90g and 150g). I want to put the new tank where the existing tank is. Should I cycle my rock in a rubbermaid container, then empty my existing tank, make the switch then fill up the new tank with my existing and newly cured rock and water? Is there a better way to make the switch?

Another question. Does anybody know where I can get a good price (Under $2.00/lb) base rock?

i don't know about the base rock.

ideally, you would want to have both tanks running for a while so that you can slowly move everything over. what you're talking about sounds good, but be careful to take your time and not add everything into the new tank at once. i've seen a tank crash from moving several times, and all of them used all of the existing water and rock, nothing new. it was just a location switch. i would recommend drilling the new tank and blocking off the overflow for a while, so that you can get it filled with water and cycling before you actually add your old tank underneath. i would then try and drain as much water as i could out of the existing tank, to (extremely carefully) move it to a new location. a lot of people may disagree with this, but if you're careful you can totally do it. the corals will be fine out of water for a few minutes, and then you can just put all the water you drained back in very quickly with a powerhead. hope this helps...

I know what your saying, I need to do some more planning and figure out how I want this to go down. Any more suggestion/hints/tips are surely welcomed and appreciated.
