filter design help

I would like some input on designing the filtration system for my 75 in wall display. I downgraded from a 150 in wall due to a failure in the tank itself, ie: cracked. eventually I willl upgrade back to a larger display but this is what I have to work with now. I have a wet dry and a 40 gal acrylic joined together with two 1" bulkheads and some PVC unions. Problem is I would like to divide the acrylic tank and make different sections, ie a fuge. The problem I have right now is that the water level in the acrylic cannot get very high as the wet dry overflows. To resolve this I am thinking of disasembling the two units and then putting the wet dry about 1.5' higher and then joining them again with PVC so as the water would drain from the display into the wet dry and then drain into the acrylic tank with gravity as well to then be pumped back up into the display. What do you think I have included a basic jpg with what is looks like now.

if the 40 is lower than the wet dry then that will be the final place where water will accumulate when the main pump is shut off. You still need to make sure there's enough room to handle the backflow in the 40.
