I have that feeder and like it. I use it for very long vacations only, since I prefer to feed frozen foods most of the time.

i was thinking of using it to feed the fish once in the morning and then once in the afternoon.
at night they would get frozen
does that sound like a good idea?

If the portions are small enough, that should work. The feeder should be adjustable enough, but I'm not totally sure. I haven't tried it for micro-feeding.

In the past, when I was better behaved, I fed once a day. Nowadays, I feed less frequently, but my tanks are thinly stocked and can grow a lot of live food.
