Firefish Pair... Breaking up?

I got a pair of Firefish (regular red ones) on Valentine's Day from someone who was changing out his tanks. He had had them for over a year, and they were happily paired off, and had even recently spawned. They have been happliy hanging out together in my tank for the last two weeks. But for the last couple of days one has been hiding a bit and the other is still swimming in the middle of the tank as ususal. When I fed them this morning, I caught the one that has been out swimming nip at the other. Divorce? I checked out the hiding one and it doesn't appear to be ill.... Spawning again?

Any ideas?
